SEPTEMBER 8, 2024 - PETITCODIAC - 10TH ANNUAL MARTIN F. TOPF RIMFIRE BR CHAMPIONSHIP - OPEN

Thanks to Darryl K. and Barb J. for sending pics and results.
It is again the time of year to begin to wrap up the competition season and to move into fun shoots. Today a good bunch of shooters converged on the Petitcodiac shooting ranges to take part in the 10th Annual Martin F. Topf Rimfire Benchrest Championship - an event that is looked forward to eagerly throughout the year.

Shooters came from all over the southern part of New Brunswick - all the way from Mazerolle Settlement to Moncton, from Saint John to Ludlow and various points in between.

The course of fire was 2 target sheets of 25 bulls with 1 shot per bull for score and unlimited sighters shot at 50 yards. One of the sheets was shot in the morning and one in the afternoon with a stop for lunch in between. The high possible score was 500/50X for the match.

With 22 shooters we ended up with 6 relays of shooters with some significant differences in conditions among the relays. The first relay the wind was very quiet and many shots were made with flags not moving - even their tails. The wind gradually picked up during the morning and later relays had to content with switching winds sometimes at 20km/hr. The afternoon relays were different again with switching winds and still some quiet periods. The sky remained overcast for the whole match and although rain was expected, it did not materialise. The temperature ranged from about 17C to 20C.

With these conditions, it was maybe a bit surprising that such very good scores were recorded. Seven shooters were able to shoot clean targets - John McC. shot a 500/33X; Cecil H. a 500/29X; John M. a 500/26X; Bert deV. a 500/26X; Volker T. a 500/24X; Bruce B. a 500/16X and Gerald D. a 500/13X. Congrats to these shooters for some fine shooting!

AUGUST 11, 2024 - PETITCODIAC - RIMFIRE BR - RESULTS

Thanks to Barb J. and Dan G. for these pics and results.
Nine competitors showed up today in Petitcodiac to test their skills in the art form known more commonly as .22  Rimfire Benchrest.  The weather was awesome but a bit humid….better than January.  The wind was pretty much predictable as is evidenced by the score sheet - three perfect 500’s in first, second and third place. It was a great day!

AUGUST 4, 2024 - MINTO - 7TH ANNUAL RNBRA CENTERFIRE BENCHREST CHAMPIONSHIPS - RESULTS

Thanks to Darryl K. for sending pics.
It was a very warm and very humid Sunday in early August that set the conditions for the 7th Annual Provincial Centerfire Benchrest Championships held in Minto New Brunswick. Shooters were wiping foreheads and hands throughout the match but fortunately, no rifles slipped out of wet hands.
Conditions, aside from the temperature which hovered around 30C and the humidity, were favourable for good shooting and as can be seen from the results, the field as a whole scored well and some very impressive scores were recorded.
Although not all directly related to the weather, several shooters had to withdraw from competition which shrank the field significantly. We started the match with 14 individuals in 2 classes of competiton and ended up with 11 by the end of the match.
Both classes of competition were shot at 100yds on the regular targets used at the Minto Gun Club. The Open class shot 10 counting shots per relay on +/- 2.5 inch bulls with the center dot modified for each caliber. In this case .30 cal had a fine dot while .24 and .22 calibers had a substantially larger X dot. The high possible for each relay was 100/10X and for the match it was 300/30X.

In Sporter Class, all calibers shot at the same 5 bulls for each relay. This resulted in a high possible of 50/5X for each relay and for the match it was 150/15X.
