DECEMBER 11, 2016 - PETITCODIAC CHRISTMAS SHOOT - RESULTS

Well, here it is, the eagerly awaited Petitcodiac Christmas shoot and the last shoot of the 2016 season.

Twenty four shooters gathered on a cold, windy and bright sunny day to do some end-of-the-year fun shooting, to celebrate a wonderful year that's almost over and also to get together for Christmas.

The Match Director was Volker T. who also did the scoring while Dan G. was the score verifier. ROs were John McC., Dan G. and Bruce B. Targets were set by Chris S., Darryl K., Dan G., Logan G., and Tony L.

We were again treated during the shoot by Barb J. and Shelly C. to some delicious banana bread, squares, fudge, and, of course, Dan's traditional Timbits. Thanks everyone, for helping out with this shoot and for the gastronomical delights.

The real story today is the meal we all shared in between relays - so many people contributed that I may have missed someone. If this happened, my apologies beforehand.

There were Terry McN.'s world famous beans
(didn't last long); Bev T. and Joanne K.'s delicious chili (also didn't last long). There were rolls and biscuits (thanks Joanne K. and Dorothy McC.). There were more treats than you could "shake a stick at" - totally hard to resist.

Thanks are due to all and especially to Bev T. and Joanne K. who gave up their day to prepare the food for us. With our rounded bellies we went back to the range and tried to shoot some more - hard to do when you're at a stage in life when a little nap might be welcome.

All the prizes today were arranged by John C. Shooting prizes were turkeys that happily went to a good home with John C., Matt McA., Tom N. and Dan G. - anticipating a nice warm oven. If, by some strange twist of fate, or a frown from the wind-gods, you did not win a turkey, there was a draw for other prizes - everyone went home with a prize - what a nice idea!!

This was also an opportunity for the Petitcodiac Sportman's Club to present awards to the top shooters in other disciplines during the year - Shelly C. and Tony L. Congratulations on some very fine shooting!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL !

DECEMBER 4, 2016 - MINTO CHRISTMAS FUN SHOOT

Nineteen shooting friends made the trek to Minto to take part in the last shoot of the year for the Minto Gun Club and the first Christmas Shoot in the new club house.

Although the weather outside was "frightful" (no really - not too too bad with temperatures rising to about 2 C and quite a stiff head wind that made one's nose run and trigger finger numb), inside it was truly "delightful" with a wood stove keeping the chili and shooters warm and lots of conversation in groups throughout the building. You'd have to conclude that the shooting was only an excuse to get together to share stories.

Many people made this day both possible and enjoyable. John McC. was the Match Director and creator of the fun targets and served as score verifier. Don M. was the head scorer. Targets were set and changes by Roger L., Dave C., John McC., Cecil H. and Dan G. The ROs were Bruce B., Dave C., Wayne K., Darryl K. and Bert deV.

There was so much to eat.
Nineteen people did their best to put a huge dent in the food but even so, many things went back home. Dave C. brought a wonderful chili and rolls, hot dogs and the fixin's; Barb J. brought trays of banana bread, squares and her world famous mince meat pies; John McC. brought Dorothy McC.'s banana bread; Volker T. brought the traditional Timbits; Bill H. brought chocolates. I probably am missing some other wonderful treats but I couldn't keep track of them all - even though I tried to sample all of them (hey! you gotta know what you're writing about!).

MANY, MANY THANKS TO ALL
WHO CONTRIBUTED
TO THIS WONDERFUL OCCASION.

Oh yes, the shooting - we did shoot and we did keep scores - keep in mind that this was a "fun shoot" and no one was out to set any records so I won't mention any of the scores. In 4 categories of shooting, (3 rimfire and 1 centerfire), the top shooters won a turkey, second place shooters won wonderful hand-made mittens and the third place shooters won a box of chocolates. The prizes were all arranged by Dave C. Here are the top 4 turkey winners:

This event was also a good opportunity for club members to express their appreciation to President Dave C. for the excellent leadership he provided to so many hard working club members during the construction of the new club house (and earlier of the shooting building). Here he is receiving a citation from John McC., chairman of the Rules Committee.

Bert deV. was also honoured to receive a citation from John McC. for his work on the New Brunswick Benchrest Shooting Blog. This website is entering it's 5th year with 292 posts and 52,000 page views.

NOVEMBER 27, 2016 - PETITCODIAC CF FUN SHOOT - RESULTS

We had a terrific day shooting a "Fun Shoot" with 9 shooters taking part. For the first time in a long time, we shot at 150yds instead of the normal 100yds. This was challenging in itself and many found that their rifles, which shot very well at 100yds, did not perform as well at 150yds. Of course, this had a lot to do with the fact that the wind was strong and all over the place as far as we could determine without the usual number of wind flags. It was predicted to be much stronger later in the day but this did not materialize. It was damp and cool and the targets came back from the stands looking a bit limp.
As this was an "Any Rifle/Any sight" Fun Match, shooters could bring a low powered scope and were assisted by Volker T. with his spotting scope for sighting.
Today, the Match Director was John McC. Don M. was the head scorer while John McC. verified the scores. John was a busy man what with shooting, scoring, recording and changing targets at times. Other target changers were Tony L. and Bert deV. while Darryl K. and Bert deV. were the ROs for the day. Thanks for all your help fellas and thanks also to Dan G. for bringing the treats.

RESULTS - ANY RIFLE/ANY SIGHT:
Volker T. - 292/6X
Bert deV. - 289/8X
Dan G. - 281/5X
George C. - 278/4X
John McC. - 275/5X
Don M. - 273/4X
Darryl K. - 272/5X
Tony L. - 244/0X
Chris S. - 174/0X
