OCTOBER 22, 2017 - 1ST ANNUAL TERRY McNEILL RIMFIRE BENCHREST CHAMPIONSHIP - RESULTS

Minto's final rimfire championship of 2017 - called the "Terry McNeill Rimfire Benchrest Championship" - was held at the Minto Ranges last Sunday with all but one of the qualifiers attending. Although no perfect scores
were recorded, some very good shooting was done. Huge "X" counts for Sporter Class!

Mother Nature co-operated in every respect - it was sunny and warm for this time of year with only a light jacket being necessary in the shady areas. The sky was blue all day and
as the day progressed the wind did pick up a bit from the first relay. Winds were mostly right to left although, typical of Minto, it did switch a bit and gave us some some dead calm later in the match. The last relay was shot with almost no wind at all quite late in the
afternoon. All-in-all a very nice, albeit a challenging, day to shoot a Championship.
It was nice to see Malcolm MacD. who joined us for this shoot.
Today, the Match Director was John McC. whose organizational talents again came to the fore. Don M. was the Head Scorer and Gerard
D. did the verification - both did a superb job of marking the targets and figuring out the final positions. The targets were set by George M. and changed by capable staplers and staple pullers Guy H., Dave C., Barb J., Bruce B., Bert deV and Cecil H.

Range Safety Officers today were Gerard D., Barb J., Wayne K., John McC., Matt McA. and Bert deV. who all did a superb job of controlling the range and keeping time. We were again spoiled by the many treats (banana bread, cinamon bread, date squares) brought by Barb J. and Dave C. A hearty thanks from all of us to the above for contributing so much to our shooting enjoyment during the Championship Shoot.
After the match was done and the final positions were tallied, the match awards were presented. This was followed by year end awards and team awards. These will be shown in the next post.

OCTOBER 8, 2017 - MINTO CENTERFIRE BR and SPORTER - RESULTS

I haven't had much time since Sunday to post these results so they are a bit late - but here they are.
It was a beautiful day on Sunday - at least until the last couple of relays. Rain had
been forecast and it held off until then, but - Oh Boy! - did it come down. It rained so hard that targets flew off the backers and at least one target was so soaked it could barely be scored.

Conditions stayed at a warm humid level for the entire match. This was definitely not
what is usual for New Brunswick in October. The wind was also quite manageable until the end. Everyone had a good shoot and congrats go to John McC. who shot a 300/20X and Bert deV. who came second with a 300/18X.

Today, John McC. was the Match Director and score verifier with Don M. taking the lead in scoring. Targets were posted by George M., who was present for the pistol shoot which was to follow the centerfire match, and a crew of others who included Wayne K., Bert deV., Guy H., Bruce B.and John McC. The Range Safety Officers were Tony L., Bruce B., Wayne K., Dave C. and Bert deV. As usual, we enjoyed the cornucopia of treats brought by Shelly C. and John McC. (thanks Dorothy). Thanks to all who lent a hand today. We enjoyed the visit of Bert's sister Nine, from Toronto, and she, in turn, enjoyed the gang, the shooting and the treats!

OCTOBER 1, 2017 - PETITCODIAC CF BR CHAMPIONSHIP - RESULTS

What a gorgeous day in New Brunswick. We are so lucky to have a fall like this with cool mornings (yes it was a bit frosty, near 0 degrees with frost definitely on the grass and on the windshields this morning and fog in low-lying areas), and warm afternoons. The temperatures rose to somewhere around 17C this afternoon. The sky was a light cool blue with no clouds in sight. The wind in Petitcodiac, usually quite a challenge, were benign and mostly from right to left but with lots of periods of relative quiet. If you waited for your condition to return you were rewarded with a good shot. Fifteen minutes were allowed per relay and this was lots of time to complete 10 counting shots.
The Match Director today was Volker T. who was the head scorer while Dan G. provided the verification of scores and stats. Targets were set and changed by Tony L., John McC., Brian P., Cecil H., Dan G., Darryl K. and Bert deV. The Range Officers for the match were Darryl K. and Bert deV. John C. provided for the wonderful lunch between the second and the last relays and Shelly C. brought the tasty treats for dessert. Thank you to everyone who made this match possible and such an enjoyable event.

We also want to extend a big welcome to Matt H. (and his wife) who came to shoot with us for the first time this year.

After the match was over and the scores were tabulated, everyone went to the club-house for the awards presentations. First a plaque was given to the Petitcodiac Centerfire Team that won the Terry McNeill First Annual Centerfire Match. Then a presentation of a plaque to Cecil H. who had the highest match score of the year in the regular season - 300/20X. John McC. was presented with a plaque for the highest single target score during the regular shooting season - 100/9X.

Yes, that's right, 5 shooters placed with perfect targets - that pretty good shooting folks! After these awards were presented, all shooters participated in a draw for prizes organized by John C. (Thanks so much for your work John). Everyone went home a winner! What a great shoot and what a fine day with friends.
