DECEMBER 10, 2023 - MINTO - ANNUAL CHRISTMAS RF FUN SHOOT - RESULTS

THE MATCH AND THE SHOOTERS:
Well, this is it folks - the last shoot of the 2023 shooting season held in Minto. This shoot is the Annual Christmas RF fun shoot and awards presentations for the 2023 season.

Like in last week's fun shoot in Petitcodiac, we shot a variety of fun targets which were quite challenging for us old guys who are used the the standard bull targets in both Open and Sporter classes. These included a blank "Lucky Turkey" target where we shot 5 shots randomly on a piece of blank paper. This was then scored using a template. Any bullet hole landing on a score would then be scored with this value and added up. Pure Luck (but it gives us all an equal chance for the turkey)!!

Secondly, we shot at the dreaded "Sudden Death Squares" which contain a white bull of decreasing size in a black background. Any shot completely surrounded by white is counted while a shot touching the black eliminates all shots on that particular bull from adding to the total score. The smallest is worth 10 points for a total possible score of 50.

Third in line of fun targets was the now familiar line-up of "Crows" ranging from a large crow worth 3 points to a number of very small crows worth 10 points for a possible high score of 99. Ties are resolved by a shot at a small bull.

Finally, we shot at ten "Small Bulls in Squares" worth 10 points each for a total possible score of 100/10X. The tricky part was that you had to hit the centre to score an X, the bull for a 10, inside the square for a 5. Touching the outside line of the square eliminated that bull from the total score.

Oh, yes - both Open and Sporter shooters shot the same targets but competed within their classes. Prizes were awarded for top scores in both classes except for the "Lucky Turkey" target. Similar to the shoot in Petitcodiac, beside the turkey, shooters competed for cash prizes.

DECEMBER 3, 2023 - PETITCODIAC - CHRISTMAS RF FUN SHOOT - RESULTS

We're here at the range in Petitcodiac for their final shoot of the year - the Annual Rimfire Christmas fun shoot. This is always a well attended event because it is the last one and it always is so much fun as well as being quite challenging for shooters used to the standard bullseye targets.
We shot a combination of blank, (ie., "lucky turkey target"), crows, sudden death squares, and flies targets and had a lot of fun doing it.
Volker T. was the match director and organizer for this event with the assistance of John C. The scoring duties were shared by John McC., John C., Dan G., and Volker T. The targets were posted and changed by Bruce B., Chris S. and Grant H. The ROs today were Chris S., Darryl K., and Volker T. Thanks to you all for making this event a very enjoyable one.
Midway through the "match" we stopped for a lunch provided by the club. Thanks go to Barb J. for the treats and to John and Dorothy McC. for the dessert muffins. Also to Bruce B. and his wife who made delicious baked beans. Grant H. and Chris S. provided for the sandwiches. Many thanks to all of you!
John M. won the "Flies Target"

Dan G. won the "Sudden Death Squares" target

Wayne LeB. won the "Crows" Target

Volker T. won the "Lucky Turkey" target

After the match we gathered in the clubhouse for the awards presentations and the annual gift table. This is a Petitcodiac tradition where all shooters select a wrapped gift from a table in drawn order. This way no-one goes home empty handed. Thank you so much to the Petitcodiac Club for this generous way to end the shooting year.
