JULY 23, 2023 - MINTO - 6th ANNUAL RNBRA RIMFIRE BENCHREST CHAMPIONSHIP - RESULTS

Thanks to Dale H. for sending these results.
The time has come for annual championships in benchrest shooting in New Brunswick. Although a bit earlier than last year, the 6th Annual RNBRA Rimfire Benchrest Championship was the first this year and, as in years past, was hosted by the Minto Gun Club. It was run concurrently with a regularly scheduled Minto Rimfire match and was organized by Conrad L. Seventeen shooters were present for a very stiff competition that saw many clean target sheets and several clean matches shot. Congrats go to Volker T. and wayne LeB. who shot clean matches in Sporter Class. Also to Bert deV., Volker T., Gerald D. and Dale H. who shot clean matches in Open Class.

It was a bit overcast as the day began and there was some fears that this might develop into rain over the course of the match. This did not happen and the conditions turned out to be almost ideal for rimfire shooting with good light and winds. The temperature was seasonable ranging from about 22C in the morning to 28C in the afternoon. Winds were predominantly from the left with a lot of switching and quiet periods as well. They were the kind of conditions where, between watching the flags and sighting on the target, some surprising changes could happen leading to exclamations of disappointment with the result on the target sheet.

JULY 16, 2023 - PETITCODIAC - RIMFIRE BR - RESULTS

Summertime in New Brunswick and a shoot in Petitcodiac sounds like a wonderful combination. And it was! A whole bunch of people came from as far north as Mazarolle Settlement outside of Fredericton and as far south as Saint John, (and many places in between), to take part in a rimfire benchrest match. These are always hotly contested and very enjoyable - not only as a match but also as a get-together for old friends who haven't seen each other for a while. The shoot was enjoyed by all. Congrats go to Gerald D. and Bert deV. who shot clean matches.

The weather was not so nice, although certainly tolerable. It was about 20C on the way down to the range and it rose slightly over the course of the match. The last couple of weeks in New Brunswick have been very humid and wet and these conditions persisted throughout this day. A towel was certainly a necessity for some shooters. During the second half of the match we were subjected to a few heavy showers pounding on the steel roof and retrieving the wind flags became a quick dash among the rain drops. The wind was actually gentle but tricky with many periods of no apparent wind activity. A debate was held among some shooters about whether it was better to wait and shoot with some wind evident or to shoot during quiet periods - some success was reported for both strategies.

Next week we'll be in Minto when we shoot the RNBRA Rimfire Benchrest Championship in both Open and Sporter classes. Hope to see you there.

JULY 9, 2023 - MINTO - CENTERFIRE BR - RESULTS

Thanks to Wayne K. for the pics and results.
It was a lovely morning starting out for the Centerfire match in Minto. The temperature was about 20C with a clear sunny sky and not much wind. As had been the case for several days, it was very humid. These conditions did not change much over the course of the match although it did get quite a bit warmer. Winds remained relatively calm and aside from the mirage, conditions were favourable.
David C. was the match director and head scorer with Guy H. verifying the scores. David C., Guy H., Cecil H. and Bert deV. changed the targets while Wayne K. and Conrad L. served as ROs. Thanks for your help today guys!

JULY 2, 2023 - PETITCODIAC - CENTERFIRE BR - RESULTS

Thanks to Dan G. and Becky McC. for these results.
It was a dark cloudy morning when we left for the range in Petitcodiac. It was about 20C and very humid. The sun came out from behind the clouds on a few occasions. Putting up the winds flags was done in the rain which stopped when we were done and did not recur during the entire match.
The wind was mostly from 12:00 o'clock but switched from 9:00 to 3:00 o'clock and sometimes died down altogether. It was a bit difficult to adjust to the lighting as we had to deal with cloudy conditions interspersed with bright sunlight on the targets. This led to difficult mirage at times.
Seven shooters participated on this Canada Day week end which I hope contributed to the low attendance. It’s concerning but we all know too well that everything is getting more expensive.
Shooter performance was top notch despite the small number of participants.  The top three shooters all posted perfect 300 scores. The big new today is that one of them posted her first 300 and earned the coveted PSC 300 Club patch…..very well done Becky McC. congratulations!
