OCTOBER 15, 2023 - MINTO - 7th ANNUAL TERRY McNEILL RIMFIRE CHAMPIONSHIP - RESULTS

Thanks to Dale H. for sending these results.
You know it's getting to the end of the shooting season when we hold the Minto Terry McNeill Rimfire Championship. This year is the 7th Annual shooting of this championship and we had 17 shooters attend. Unfortunately, a number of our shooting friends did not qualify with 3 matches under their belts in each of the Open and Sporter classes. We missed them today!
It has been raining pretty steadily for the last couple of weeks but today we seem to have been spared and most of the match was dry! It remained overcast and windy so there was definitely a need for fall clothing with temperature ranging from about 7C to the mid teens.
The wind was very changeable with the dominant wind from the left in some relays and from 12 or 6 o'clock during others. Very tricky and hard to predict. You had to be patient and wait for your condition to return or go to the sighters to test out a new condition. The time almost ran out for some shooters who did just that.
Congrats go to Wayne LeB. who shot a clean match in Sporter class with 400/19X and in Open class Barb J. shot a clean 400/20X and Bert deV. a 400/26X.

OCTOBER 1, 2023 - MINTO - CENTERFIRE ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP

What a beautiful fall day for a championship shoot! It was a bit cool early in the morning while driving to the range. The dashboard said it was 4C on the Minto highway. It was good thing that Wayne K. had already started a fire in the stove and the clubhouse was quite toasty. Temperatures throughout the match slowly rose to 24C in the afternoon.

Similarly, we started out with a pale sun shining throught the fog in the morning and it was pretty constant and intense throughout the match. The wind was very light at times and at other times was not visible in the wind flags. It was mentioned that the wind reached 3km/hr - definitely not a typical wind on the Minto ranges.
It was an extremely disappointing turnout today. Eight shooters showed up to shoot the final championship of the year! It was mentioned that this was due to the Club applying the qualifying rules from before the Covid epidemic and that shooters may have thought they could not shoot this match as a result. Whatever the case - it is time to revisit the qualifying rules as it seems that the number of active shooters is dropping and we probably want to encourage recreational shooting as much as we can.

Today, Wayne K. was the match director and scorer with Don M. providing the verifying. John McC. and Conrad L. were the range safety officers while Bert deV., John McC., Cecil H. and Conrad L. changed the target sheets down-range. Bert deV. brought some cookies but unfortunately we could not enjoy a cuppa coffee this time.
