SEPTEMBER 13, 2020 - PETITCODIAC - THE 6th ANNUAL MARTIN F. TOPF RIMFIRE CHAMPIONSHIP - RESULTS

It was a lovely "fall" day in New Brunswick even though the summer has a couple of weeks to go. The temperature on the way to Peticodiac was a little cool but there was a hint of humidity and when the temperature came up in the late morning and early afternoon it did become a

little more muggy - but not enough to hinder our shooting or our enjoyment of getting together for the 6th Annual Martin F. Topf Rimfire Championship. This is a great time of year for shooting!

Yes there was some wind - or to say it more correctly, the Petitcodiac winds did not disappoint. As is typical, the first relay was very quiet with an occasional hint of a breath of wind from the right. Five 250s and six 249s were shot during that first relay. This was cut in half during the second relay which gives you some idea of how the wind conditions had changed. It was stronger, came from several directions, dipped and curled and rose from the range floor.

Looking at one particular wind-flag gave a false reading of what the bullet had to go through on it's way to the target. This may have worked during the first relay but at least 2 or 3 flags were necessary to make a predictable shot. Even then, there were some close calls and heart rates went up and down - a lot -  during the shooting. It was challenging.

Congrats for some fine shooting are due to Dan G. who not only shot a 500 target but was able to keep the shots close earning 27Xs. Also to John McC and Bert deV. congrats for their 500 targets.

Covid-19 played a role as well - not only in the shooting but also in the awards presentations and the lunch. John C. had provided for a nice lunch which was eaten between the first and second relays. Thanks to Dorothy McC. for the dessert. All the usual precautions (2m apart, hand cleaning, face masks, shooting screens etc.) were observed as much as possible.

The match was organised by match director Volker T. who also was the head scorer. Dan G. verified the scoring and stats. The range safety officers were Dan G., Darryl K. and John McC. Targets were set and changed by Chris S., Grant H. and Mike C. My apologies if I missed anyone. There were some good cookies, brought by Barb J., available during the shooting and Dan G. brought the Timbits. Many many thanks to all who made this such an enjoyable shoot.

After the shooting was done, we all helped to break down the range and then went to th clubhouse for the awards presentations. The awards for the best single target during the regular schedule was shared by Bruce B. and Mike C. with a score of 250/18X. The high match score was awarded to Volker T. with a score of 500/32X. The top 3 shooters in today's match received cash awards, and personal trophies and plaques.
A very nice feature of the Petitcodiac Sportsmen's Club is the draw for prizes for those who did not receive a shoting award. This was organized by John C. Many thanks John and the PSC for a very enjoyable day of shooting.

SEPTEMBER 6, 2020 - MINTO: RNBRA CENTERFIRE BENCHREST CHAMPIONSHIP - RESULTS

Fall was in the air and it was a bit cool as we travelled to the Minto ranges for the 3rd Annual
RNBRA Centerfire Benchrest Provincial Championship.

The morning remained a bit cool and everyone wore a fall jacket. It's amazing how fall sneaks up on you and before you know it, your wood is in the house and you're making arrangements with the fellow down the road to shovel your driveway with his tractor and auger. Next will be Christmas I suppose.

But, before we get to that, we have some final shoots and championships to complete. Today was a centerfire benchrest for score match and the group was buzzing with eager anticipation. The match director, Conrad L., who also represented the RNBRA, gave his welcome speech giving credit to all the hard working members of the Organizing Committee who made the match possible.

Almost everything happened outside - thanks to good weather. The temperature gradually warmed up and all the jackets were shed by the end of the shoot. Some clouds had made an appearance early in the day but, thankfully, this did not develop into showers. After a while it became very sunny and bright, which, although a bit glaring on the targets, was welcomed by all. The wind was another story. It began calmly enough during the first relay and several 100 targets were recorded. As the day progressed, it became a much stronger wind and also gusted from several directions on the range. The last relay was quite challenging and a few points were dropped for sure. Despite this, congratulations are due to Bert deV. who shot 300/20X and especially to Cecil H. who shot a 300/19X target in spite of having serious problems with his eyes!

Many thanks are due to Conrad L. for his role as match director and organization committee chairman. David C. and Wayne K. obtained and prepared the food for the match while Barb J. brought some of her wonderful cookies. Don M. and Dan G. did the scoring and the stats. Conrad L., Mike C., John McC. and Bert deV. were the range safety officers for about 1/2 the match while Barb J., who was not shooting, was the RO for the other half. The targets were set and changed by David C., Bruce B., Ben F., Mike C., Cecil H., Conrad L. and John McC.
Many, many thanks to all of you for your help today - this match could not have been shot without you.
Also, a big welcome to Austin E. who we all have known over the years and who came to shoot this match for the first time.

AUGUST 30, 2020 - PETITCODIAC - CENTERFIRE BENCHREST - RESULTS

Before the match started, Darryl K.
was presented with the Minto 400 Club
badge he earned last weekend.

It was a rainy day when Tropical Storm Laura decided to fizzle out over the maritimes. Lots and lots of rain that came in several cloudbursts. Strangely though, there was very little wind that accompanied this rain and the temperature remained quite pleasant. In fact, there was absolutely no wind during the first half of the match and only a little later on.

Today, Volker T. was the match director and head scorer with Dan G. verifying the scoring and stats. Dan G. who had one of the 2 raincoats at the match was also a target changer along with Malcolm McA. and Don M. The ROs were Darryl K. and Bert deV. Dan G. brought the Timbits. Thanks to everyone for helping out today.
