AUGUST 16, 2026 - MINTO - RIMFIRE BR - OPEN/SPORTER

This Sunday was a great day for a shooting match! It started with 8C and heavy dew on the car in the morning and by the time we were at the range it had risen to 13C. It actually felt like an early fall day without the woodsy smells. Wayne K. had warmed up the clubhouse which was welcome when wearing a short sleaved shirt. By the end of the match the temperature was about 23C. A welcome change from the high temperatures and humity of last weekend.

It remained slightly overcast during the shooting with a thin cloud cover which helped with sighting conditions although with high magnification, some mirage was evident from time-to-time. No rain though.

The wind, as is usual for Minto, was switching from 9:00 o'clock to 3:00 o'clock with long periods at 12:00 o'clock. It's velocity ranged from long periods of apparent quiet to fairly strong winds of 25km/hr. A shooter was wise to choose a dominant condition and also to be sighted in on a secondary condition. Both were needed to complete the match within the time limit of 25 minutes for 20 counting shots. Many shots were made by holding off - a bit risky as it was hard to estimate the velocity of the wind.

Although a good number of clean target sheets were shot, only two clean match scores were recorded - both in Open Class. Congrats go to Dale H. who shot a score of 400/20 to clinch first place and to Bert deV. who placed second with a score of 400/18X. Barb J. placed third, scoring 398/20X. In Sporter Class, Bert deV. just missed a clean match score and shot 399/22X; Wayne LeB. scored 398/16X and Dan B. placed third with 398/11X. Congrats to all.
