AUGUST 27, 2023 - PETITCODIAC - CF BR - RESULTS

Thanks to Dan G. for the write-up and to Volker T., Darryl K. and John C. for the pics
The weather today was overcast and calm for most of the shoot with only one short glimpse of the sun.   Mostly a straight down range wind sprinkled with a slight quartering breeze from the left….not particularly challenging.  However some of us still got caught in a quick switch that subsequently resulted in only one perfect 300!  Lots of 299’s…..not even in the same neighborhood as 300, ( congratulations Malcolm who shot a 300/16X ). I guess we’re going to have to dig deeper. Still a good day with friends doing something we love.
This was our last preliminary CF shoot so plan on attending the Championship. Remember, we have no requirement in Petitcodiac that involves a minimum number of shoots in order to qualify.  Cheers, see you then, Dan.

AUGUST 20, 2023 - MINTO - RIMFIRE BR - RESULTS

Thanks to Dale H. for sending these results.
This Sunday was a combination of Quarterly Meeting and rimfire match for the Minto Gun Club. A good attendance of 20 members was noted at the meeting and Chairman David C. moved things along so that lots of time was available for the shoot.

The conditions for shooting were excellent and this was reflected in the excellent scores reported below.  All relays were favoured by good light and no glare or mirage. The rain held off for most of the match although one relay in the second half of the match did get a light and steady rain for about 10 minutes. Luckily, this was accompanied by totally still wind/no wind and many Xs were recorded.

As a matter of fact, the wind today was generally benign with light or no winds for most of the match. It was predominantly left to right although some switching wind was observed. The temperature started at about 16C and ended in the afternoon at about 23C. It was a little humid but not as bad as we have experienced lately.  All-in-all it was a wonderful New Brunswick summer day and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Congratulations are due to a good number of shooters who shot clean target sheets at this match. In Open Class Volker T. shot 400/20X, David C. shot 19X, Dale H. shot 16X, Barb J. shot 14X and Gerald D. shot 11X. In Sporter Class, Wayne LeB. shot a 400/22X. Congrats to all.

Before the awards for this shoot were handed out, a Petitcodiac 300 Club Badge was awarded to Guy H. by Dan G. This had been over looked in the past when Guy had shot a clean centerfire match back in August 2021. Congrats Guy!
Many people lent a hand to make today's match an enjoyable one - many thanks!

AUGUST 13, 2023 - PETITCODIAC - RIMFIRE BR - RESULTS

A good number of shooters attended this week's rimfire benchrest shoot in Petitcodiac NB. Rimfire shooting is becoming the favourite discipline of benchrest shooters this year possibly because centerfire components are so hard to find and are so expensive. Besides, it is fun and a good way to get together with friends. Just think about it  .  .  .  you can "shoot the sh*t" without ear protection on. This is a major consideration for us old fellas who are at least half deaf.

The conditions were excellent for the first relay - clear light, no rain and no "Petitcodiac wind". The second relay was almost as lucky but did have to content with a switching wind but also lots of quiet periods. The third relay had that plus a bit of rain. The fourth relay had the same as the second but the wind came from the other side. All in all a favourable shooting day.

The shooters did not disappoint with 16 clean target sheets. When the dust had settled, 5 shooters had shot a clean match. Congratulations are due to Grant H. who shot 500 with 29X; John McClusky with 26X, Bert deV. with 23X; Matt McA. with 20X and Wayne LeB. with 17X.
Grant H., who won the match, scored his first 500 match ever and joined the illustrious Petitcodiac 500 Club. Congrats Grant!

AUGUST 6, 2023 - MINTO - 6TH ANNUAL RNBRA CENTERFIRE BR CHAMPIONSHIP - RESULTS

The 6th Annual RNBRA Provincial Centerfire Benchrest Championship was held today hosted again by the Minto Gun Club. Although the attendance was low compared to other years, all those present had a great time competing for a spot on the RNBRA plaque and the bragging rights that come with that.
The weather was almost ideal with temperatures in the high teens and lower 20s. It was a little humid and we did get a little bit of a shower at one point but this did not persist and it didn't even wet the target sheets significantly. The wind, however, was a bit tricky with a lot of sudden switches. At the beginning of the match it was predominantly left to right while later it was right to left and then settled down to almost still from time to time.

Conrad L., the organizing committee chairman, and David C., the president of the Minto Gun Club, did most of the work related to organizing and running the match but it could not have been a success without the assistance of many of the members and shooters. Many thanks to everyone who lent a hand!
