SEPTEMBER 27, 2026 - MINTO - CENTERFIRE BR - OPEN/SPORTER

It started out as a cool fall day with the temperature at 6C when we left for the range. By the time we arrived, it had climbed to 12C and on the drive home it ranged from 17C to 19C. So a very nice fall day in New Brunswick. The sky remained with a light white overcast condition which helped in sighting.

The wind is usually the "condition" story in Minto and today was no exception. Although predominantly from the right, (ie, a 3:00 o'clock wind), it did switch to come from all directions on the range and we even had several quiet periods. The switches were rapid and could happen between the times when you were sighting and when you finally squeezed the trigger - a points losing situation!

Unfortunately, this match overlapped the end of Moose season in New Brunswick so attendance was low - only 3 shooters. This made the work load a bit more demanding for 2 of the shooters and it was hard to relax between relays. One of the shooters was Don M. who we haven't seen in months as he has been struggling with health and treatment concerns. This is his first shoot in over 5 months. Nice to have you back Donald!

SEPTEMBER 20, 2026 - PETITCODIAC RIMFIRE BR - OPEN CLASS

Today’s shoot in Petitcodiac was well attended and a good time was had by all. One clean score was registered in spite of a wind that could best be described as twitchy !   

Gerald D. shot his guts out and scored a 500 with 27 amazing X’s - well done Gerry !  The next closest score was 498/27X by Dale H. for silver followed by a 497/22X by Richard M. for bronze.  

Match director was Dan G. with John McC. acting as verifier.  The target changers today were John McC., Chris S. and Dan G.   Bruce B. and Dan G. acted as range officers. Timbits were supplied by John M.  Thanks everyone.

SEPTEMBER 13, 2026 - MINTO RIMFIRE BR, OPEN/SPORTER

It's getting toward the end of summer and the evidence was in the morning temperature. When leaving for the range, early in the morning the temperature was recorded at 9C. By the time we started the match it had climbed to about 15C and by the end of the match we had gained another 4C. There is also lots of evidence in the trees around us. Some of the softer maples were already changing to a vivid red while poplars were beginning to turn brown/yellow.

The day was over-cast with only a few short periods of bright sunshine. This made it good for shooters who preferred a low even light and no mirage at higher power magnification - that includes almost all of us, eh? There was a bit of very light rain toward the end of the match and the rain was heavier on the way home.

The wind was a curious mix of switches from one side of the range to the other. Sometimes flags were facing each other and the daisy-wheels were spinning like crazy. The dominant wind was from the left side of the range but it could suddenly switch to any other direction or to no apparent wind at all. A shooter had to have sighted for a couple of conditions in order to complete the match within the time limit.

There were no clean match scores recorded, yet, despite the difficult conditions, which affected all shooters, some pretty good target sheets were shot today.

Malcolm McA. sent the following information: "The usual match director Dan G. was away so the substitute match directors were John McC. and Malcolm McA. Scores were marked by Malcolm McA. and verified by John McCluskey. 

The temperature was 13C and it was an extremely wet day with constant rain but relatively mild winds. The soaked targets made scoring especially difficult.  The targets were changed by Malcolm McA. and Tony L. 

There were only 4 shooters brave enough to face the miserable weather and unfortunately no clean targets were shot today. Malcolm McA. took first place with 299/11X, Darryl K. was in second with 299/8X and John McC. went home with a third place medal after scoring a 297/8X.
