OCTOBER 18, 2026 - PETITCODIAC - 12TH ANNUAL MARTIN F. TOPF RIMFIRE CHAMPIONSHIP - OPEN

Many thanks to Barb J. and Darryl K. for sending the photos of the awards ceremony.

As the 2026 season runs to its end, we shot the highly anticipated Petitcodiac Sportsman's Club final rimfire championship - "The 12th Annual Martin F. Topf Rimfire Championship".

It was a typical New Brunswick late fall day with -7C to -2C degrees on the way down to Petitcodiac. During the match it climbed although still quite cool and on the way home the car registered +11C - nice! During the match the sun was out and the first relay had to cope with some mirage as the sun shone directly onto the targets. Later in the day this dimished as the sun moved in the sky.

The wind was brutal - not high in velocity but very unpredictable with sudden switches across the range. It actually came from all over the range but stayed in one position for a time and then switched while shooters were firing. This led to no clean match scores being recorded. There were, however, six clean target sheets shot today. Congrats to those who beat the wind consistently for at least one relay and to the top 3 shooters in today's match.

After the first 2 relays completed shooting, halfway through the match, we all had a lunch at the clubhouse. This was organised by Chris S. Many thanks to the club and to Chris. Lunch sure was good after a cold morning.

OCTOBER 11, 2026 - MINTO CLUB 2026 CENTERFIRE CHAMPIONSHIP - OPEN/SPORTER concurrent with NEW BRUNSWICK 2026 CENTERFIRE TEAM SHOOT

We are getting to the end of the 2026 shooting season and today we shot the Minto Club Centerfire Championship which was run concurrent with the Annual Centerfire Team Shoot. Although in years past the Team Shoots were shot early in the season and separately from other club shoots, this year we decided to try to combine them for the sake of efficiency. It looks as if this was well received and ran smoothly and everyone enjoyed the competition and get-together.

It must be said that several volunteers worked very hard today to make this a success. They probably went home a bit tired but with our thanks and appreciation.

PEOPLE TO THANK:
Match Director - Bert deV.
Scorer/Stats - Bert deV.
Score verifier/Stats - Dan G.
Target setter and changers - David C. and Guy H.
Range Officers - David C. and Tony L.
Team Captains - Dan G. and David C.
Treats - Shelly C. (squares), David C. (coffee and cookies), Dan G. (Tim's muffins) and Bert deV. (Tim's donuts)
Pics - Bert deV. and Darryl K.

The weather was mixture of blessings. Temperatures were typical for a New Brunswick fall with 0 to -1C on the drive to the range. Then, as the day moved along, it rose to about 12C on the way home. A bit cool in the morning but pretty nice during the day. The sky was overcast throughout most of the day so the light was good and mirage not apparent.
The wind was blustery and cool throughout the day, coming predominantly from the left and crossing the range. As is typical for Minto it also switched quite a bit to the point where flags did not agree. If a shooter was patient, a return to desired conditions was not very long in coming.

It was really really nice to see some of the shooters we haven't seen for a while. We welcomed the shooters from Petitcodiac and especially Shelly C. who we missed for most of the year or more.
The course of fire during the shoot was 30 counting shots at 100 yards for Open class shooters. Targets in open class were sheets of 10 small bulls with "X-rings" proportional to the caliber shot. The X for 30 caliber shooters was a small center dot while for the 6mm shooters it was a ring about 1.5mm in diameter. In Sporter class, a different target sheet was used with 5 small bulls not proportional to caliber. Sporter class shooters shot 15 counting shots in the match as Sporter barrels heat up more quickly. Those Sporter class shooters whose scores counted toward Team scores had their scores doubled so that they were comparable to the possible available to Open class shooters.
Some very nice targets were shot today. Congrats go to Bert deV., who shot a 300/20X, and to Tony L. who shot a 300/17X in Open class. Tony joined the exalted ranks of those who shot a 300 in Minto in Centerfire competition with President David C. making the presentation.

Among the Sporter shooters, Guy H. shot a clean match score of 150/9X while Dan G. shot a perfect target sheet of 50/5X.
