NOVEMBER 1, 2026 - PETITCODIAC - ANNUAL CLUB CENTERFIRE BR CHAMPIONSHIP run concurrent with RNBRA CENTERFIRE BENCHREST PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

This Sunday, benchrest shooters from the southeren half of New Brunswick gathered in Petitcodiac for the annual Centerfire Petitcodiac Sportsmen's Club Championship which was run concurrent with the annual Royal New Brunswick Rifle Assn. Provincial Centerfire Benchrest Championship.

It was a beautiful fall day with temperatures ranging from -1C to +3C on the drive toward Moncton. This gradually increased during the day to +10C on the drive back home. The sun was out for most of the day which produced some mirage at higher magnification during the "windless" periods. This proved to be manageable for most shooters.

The wind conditions were very mild during the first relay with many quiet periods. The wind grew stronger in velocity during the match with the final relay much more challenging and the direction switched from right to left with some tailwinds and seemingly "windless" periods. 

These conditions led to some very good scores recorded although the X count was faily low for most shooters. In Open class, 3 clean match scores were shot. Congrats go to Darryl K. who won with a very nice score of 300/21X. Also to Bert deV. and Tony L.  who tied with a final score of 300/14X. Seventeen clean target sheets were produced in Open Class!

In Sporter Class, no clean match scores were shot today but Dan G. shot a perfect 50/5X target sheet and also won the Sporter match with a score of 148/10X. Congrats Dan! Bert deV shot a clean 50/3X target sheet and came second with a score of 147/7X.

Both classes were shot at 100yd. with Open class making use of mechanical rests and rear bags. Sporter class shooters could use only sand bags in front and rear bags. The course of fire for Open class consisted of 30 counting shot over 3 relays while Sporter class consisted of 15 counting shots over 3 relays. Each relay ended after 15 minutes with the last relay shot after lunch.

After the first 2 relays were completed, everyone went to the clubhouse to have a lunch organised by Chris S. and provided by the Petitcodiac Sportsmen's Club. Desert was provided by Shelly C. This was a welcome break for a hungry bunch of shooters.

After the match was completed and all the stats done, everyone went to the clubhouse for the awards presentations.
