JUNE 23, 2024 - MINTO - ANNUAL RIMFIRE TEAM SHOOT - RESULTS

It was an overcast day with starting temperatures of about 16C for the Annual Rimfire Team Shoot in Minto. We didn't see the sun all day and throughout the match it rained occasionally at first. Toward the end of the match rain was constant.

The nice thing about the conditions was that the wind remained calm although tricky with switches and pockets of wind that were not really visible to the shooters at the shooting line. This rimfire match was over 100 yards on a range that has a significant dip or hollow from about 60 yards to the target faces. It is impossible to guage the wind in this hollow and, more importantly, in the arc travelled by the bullets on their way to the targets. So some surprises were registered by the shooters affected by changes they could not see.

The match was a team match which meant that each club could field a maximum of 7 shooters per team and the best 4 scores were selected for the team score. Three clubs participated: Petitcodiac Sportsman's Club, Minto Gun Club and Lake George Gun Club. Petitcodiac won the match with a score of 1528/55X, (high possible was 1600/160X). Minto came second with 1519/40X and Lake George came third with 1508/41X. The course of fire was 2 relays of 20 shots on 5 small bull targets with a 3/4 inch 10 ring. This meant 40 shot in total with a high possible of 400/40X.

The individual high scores were posted by Volker T. at 385/14X; Grant H. with 384/17X and Dale H. with 382/7X. We also welcomed a new shooter to our benchrest matches - Matt LeB.

The rimfire BR match was held on Father's Day and this is most likely the reason for the lower attendance. Even so, it looks like all shooters had a very good time and some good scores were recorded.

JUNE 9, 2024 - MINTO CENTERFIRE BR - RESULTS

No sun at all today! It was cloudy and threatened rain all day. The rain held off for the match though. These conditions were excellent for sighting for the old eyes squinting through the scopes. The wind was also quite moderate ranging between 15 and 20km/hr. mostly from the left but also from other directions as is typical in Minto.

Congratulations go to Cecil H. who shot the only clean target in Open class with a score of 300/20X. Also congrats to Guy H. in Sporter class shooting 150/13X, (only 2 Xs from a perfect match), and to Bert deV. who shot 150/9X.

Today we welcomed John L., son of Conrad L., to his first ever shooting match. He did very well indeed for his first shoot using borrowed equipment. Bravo! Hope to see you again real soon.

JUNE 2, 2024 - PETITCODIAC - CENTERFIRE BR - RESULTS

It turned out to be a wonderful day for a centerfire shoot in Petitcodiac. Temperatures remained seasonal with high single digits in the morning increasing to about 24C on the way home. The wind ranged from "pretty stiff" (from 12 to 17 km/hr), to almost none and was predominantly from 6:00 o'clock. It was very sunny at times and the mirage danced around excitedly, while at other times, when the wind was blowing, the mirage was not there at all. Pretty nice conditions all-in-all.

There were only 6 shooters in attendance which was a rather poor showing but it did let us keep our gear on the assigned benches. Barrels remained warm from relay to relay though.

MAY 19, 2024 - PETTICODIAC - RIMFIRE BR - RESULTS

Thanks to Volker T. for these results and write-up. Also to Darryl K. for the pics.

It was a nice day for shooting rimfire. The sky was overcast, but bright with no mirage. The temperature ranged from 13-17C which was comfortable and few mosquitoes! The wind ran back and forth from east to west at 7-17km; not terribly windy, but the windflags hardly stood still, so still challenging.

Congrats to the four shooters who shot clean targets:

John McC. shot 500/36X, Cecil H. shot 500/30X, Barb J. shot 500/22X and

Volker T. shot 500/29X. A close X count throughout. The rest were not far behind.

Thanks to Barb J. for the excellent sweets, to the team of Chris S. and Grant H. who did the scoring and tabulation of results. Also to our Range Officers: Chris S., Bruce B., and Volker T. MAY 12, 2024 - MINTO - CENTERFIRE TEAM SHOOT

Everyone had prepared for the Centerfire Team Shoot - one of the highlights of the shooting season. The course of fire was to shoot 30 counting shots at small caliber specific bulls over 3 relays with the four highest scores counting toward the team scores for each team. Each could be composed of as many as 8 shooters but only the four highest were included in the scoring for that team. Both the Minto Gun Club and the Petitcodiac Shooting Sports Club were represented.

The day started out with the temperature a bit on the cool side (6-7C) which, as is typical for a May day in New Brunswick, warmed up to around 18C by the end of the shooting. What made it a bit unusual was that a raw wind persisted throughout the match and many shooters kept on their winter coats while sitting on the benches with the wind coming in through the ports.

The wind was really the story of the day as it persisted all day long with gusts at least 40km/hr. It was really not steady but offered many windows where the selected conditions would come back.
