October 26, 2014 - PETITCODIAC FINAL CENTERFIRE BR. CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH - RESULTS

The Match - sent by John Corbett:
The Petitcodiac Centrefire Benchrest Championship Shoot was held on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Petitcodiac Sportsman's Club Rifle Range. Registration time was at 9:30 am and the shoot started at 10:00 am. A good number of shooters qualified to shoot at no fee and to participate in the Championship Top 5 Awards. Other shooters were welcome to attend and shoot but with the usual shoot fee and no participation in the Top 5 Awards. Shooters who did not  place in the Top 5 Awards participated in a Prize Draw so everyone who participated in the Shoot was a winner.
Lunch was provided to all in
attendance.
The course of fire was 3 hunter class targets with 2 shots per bull on score and unlimited sighters in a 15 minute relay. This resulted in 4 relays for the 18 shooters.

Prizes:
Prizes were donated by Hirsch Precision. We thank Peter Dobson for this donation and for his generous support of shooting in New Brunswick.

The Conditions:
For several days before the match, it had been raining furiously, and we were all afraid that the match would be a very wet one with the winds that Petitcodiac is known for. When we drove down to the range it was cold, about 4 C but there was only the slightest hint of rain - a misting. During the match it was only during the last 2 relays that a substantial rain appeared. It remained cold on the firing point and did not exceed 10 C. Those horrible and tricky Petitcodiac winds? - not a sigh or even a breath.

This was very unusual but did lead to some excellent scores - 3 shooters shot a perfect match and joined the illustrious Petitcodiac 300 CLub: Cecil Harvey with 300/20X; Dan Gladstone with 300/13X and for the first time in his shooting career, Matt Armstrong shot a perfect 300 with 12X. Congratulations guys - well done. That's not all - there were 22 perfect targets shot in all - a record for a match I'm sure.

People to Thank:
The following people worked hard to make this Final shoot a success. Volker T. was the Match Director and did all the scoring with Martin T. verifying the results. The Range Safety Officers were Dan G. and Darryl K. Targets were set up by John McCl., Dan G. and Brian P. while the target changers were Dan G., Brian P., Logan G., and Cecil H. The lunch and prizes were arranged by John C. Shelly C. brought the treats for the lunch while Dan G. and John McC. brought the Timbits for the shoot. Many thanks to all of you for your dedication and efforts.

OCTOBER 11, 2014 - NEW BRUNSWICK .22 BR TEAM SHOOT - RESULTS

Description of the Match (sent by John C.):
The New Brunswick .22 Rimfire Benchrest Team Shoot was held at the Petitcodiac Sportsman's Club Rifle Range starting at 10:00am. and lunch was provided. Spotting scopes were allowed. Two paper targets were shot at 100 yards with 20 shots on score for each target for a total of 40 shots and 400 points. Each club represented could have a minimum of 4 shooters to a maximum of 7 shooters on their team. The top 4 scores on each club team were totaled for the team score and the club team with the highest score is the New Brunswick Champion.

The Match Conditions (sent by Volker T.):
Well, the 'wind gods' were kind to the shooters today. The wind was very light, with only some increase in velocity at times. It was a great day to shoot 100yds., but sadly, nobody was able shoot a 400 at 100yds., (if we would have been shooting at 50yds, I'm sure there would have been several 500's shot today - the conditions were that good - and if course on a good day we're not too too bad shooters). But then again, most of us seldom shoot this distance.

Interesting to note that Anschutz rifles were used by eight out of the top ten shooters. The other rifles were a Remington, and a Frank de Haas custom build.

Thanks are Due To (sent by Volker T.):
1.  Carl J., Guy H. and Cecil H. for setting target frames.
2.  Dan G. and Brian P. for target setting/retrieval.
3.  John C. for looking after the wonderful lunch.
4.  Barb J. and Dan G. for the tasty sweets on the range.
5.  Barb J., Daryl K. and Volker T. for the great pictures.
6.  Martin T. and Wayne K. assisted the scorekeeper.
7.  Dan G. and Darryl K. for being RO.
8.  Volker T. was the Match Director and Scorekeeper.

Thanks to everyone for making it a great day on the range!
Your Director, Volker.

THE MINTO WORK GANG - HARD AT IT ON THE NEW RANGE BUILDING

Many thanks to Barb J. for sending these excellent pictures.

The Minto Gun Club has been hard at work building a closed and covered firing point point and it looks like the building is coming along nicely. What a good job these carpenters - Dave C., Cecil H., George M., Guy H., and painters - Barb J. and Carl J. are doing! Looks like they are having a great day.

OCTOBER 5, 2014 - MINTO - FIRST FINAL SHOOT FOR .22 BR - RESULTS

Many thanks to Barb J. for sending the results, the write-up and the pictures.

Today's shoot was the first of 2 Final shoots for .22 Rimfire BR. The results will be combined with the second Final Shoot and an overall Champion will be announced.

We had a great shoot today in Minto. It was very wet and windy. Thanks to the carpenters, we were nice and dry inside the new building. (We plan to help stain the siding tomorrow on the new building.) The targets though had to be dried on the stove
There were sixteen shooters present.  Terry McN. was scorekeeper. Carl J., Wayne K., and Barb J. were Range Officers. Several people took turns changing the targets. Today was Wayne's K. birthday and he won the Sporter Class.

Congratulations to Guy H. who, despite all the rain today, shot a perfect match with a score of 400/10X. He joins others in the exalted Minto 400 Club.
