After yesterday's Team Shoot in Minto, it took an extra coffee and a little will-power to make it back for a 22Rimfire BR Open and Sporter Rifle match. Several shooters felt like I did - a bit tired but still eager to shoot - perhaps to redeem ourselves after yesterday.
The weather was OK - overcast but no rain, not cold or hot although it did warm up during the day. There were a few mosquitos and black flies and some favourable winds. Sounds like shooting in the Minto, New Brunswick alright!
Now about the winds - very very tricky. Often all the wind indicators on the flat portion of the range would be totally quiet and you'd think that was the perfect condition to fire, only to find out that the beautiful 10X you were expecting was a high 9 or worse - somewhere on the range something was stirring. It turns out that the wind was rising out of the pit where the lake is and blowing quite strongly just in front of the target stands causing bullets to rise - sometimes by a good inch or more.
Some truths about shooting - it's fun, it's great to hang out with fellow shooters at the range and you learn something new (or forgotten) each time you go out.
Today, the match director was Matt McA. who also did the scoring with Don M. doing the score and stats verification.
John McC. did the registrations and the initial organization. The targets were changed by Wayne K., Barb J., Dave C., George M., Guy H. and John McC. The ROs were Bert deV., George M. and John McC. Barb J. was the talented photographer. The goodies came from Barb J. and Grant P. Jr. Thanks to everyone who pitched in today.
