OCTOBER 17, 2021 - MINTO - CENTERFIRE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Minto Centerfire Championship had the disadvantages of being held in the middle of a Covid 4th wave "circuit breaker" and also on a cool, dark, overcast day with a forecast of heavy rains. We had relatively few shooters come to the match but the Covid restrictions did not hamper our shooting too much.
The wind, as it often is, was the deciding factor today. It was all over the place with only in the last few relays becoming a bit more predictable. Shots that looked good ended up outside of the X-ring and a few further out than that. As a result, no clean match scores were shot today although some very nice target sheets were handed in. The record 8Xs shot during the regular season was broken by John McC with a 100 and 9Xs.

OCTOBER 3, 2021 - MINTO - THE 5th ANNUAL TERRY McNEILL RIMFIRE CHAMPIONSHIP - RESULTS

The Minto Gun Club held its annual Rimfire Championship known as the Terry McNeill Rimfire Championship on a cool fall day. Although the temperature did come up from in the morning, it remained a day in which a heavier jacket was welcome.
The wind was very interesting throughout the match as it came and went. During the first 2 relays in the morning there was hardly any wind that we could see although it did have some effect on the shooting with surprising "flyers" going out. Subsequent relays had to cope with gusting and switching winds until later on in the afternoon when the wind became light and steady - very predictable. The last 2 relays could shoot almost at anytime and expect the same result.
Covid wave #4 is moving throughout New Brunswick and so we had to maintain distances and wear masks except on the firing line. This did not curtail our enjoyment of the event but did make socializing a little more difficult.
As a result, very good scores were posted by many shooters. Congratulations go to Bruce B. who won the match with a clean score of 400/21X. Also to Bert deV with a 400/21X and Mike C. with a score of 400/21X. Guy H. scored a 400/19X and John McC. scored a 400/16X. Good shooting guys!
This championship was well attended and many people worked to make it a success. We especially thank David C. and his wife who provided a lunch at very short notice.

SEPTEMBER 26, 2021 - PETITCODIAC CENTERFIRE CHAMPIONSHIP AND AWARDS - RESULTS

The weatherman had predicted a lot of rain for New Brunswick today during our Final Petitcodiac Centerfire Championship and it certainly looked threatening on the way to the range. A little bit of rain fell during the first half of the match before we broke for lunch at the clubhouse. During lunch the sky opened up with sheets of rain thundering on the steel roof. Unprepared, a lot of us "borrowed" garbage bags to convert into raincoats and went back to the range to finish the last relays of the match. It was all part of the fun!
The temperature remained a comfortable 20C or so with a good bit of humidity. Winds were actually quite steady during the first relays of the match coming up the range into our faces with a few switches. During the rain storm we coped with sudden gusts that, at times, were quite strong but at other times seemed to skim over the trees without affecting the flags and targets on the range floor. If we waited for our conditions to return we were able to manage our shots quite well.
As a result, half the field shot a clean match or dropped only one point - pretty good considering. Congratulations go to Mike C. who shot a 300/23X to win the Championship. Bert deV. shot a 300/19X, John McC. a 300/18X and David C. shot 300/11X - his first ever 300 at Petitcodiac. Congrats guys - well done!
Respecting the province's new Covid restrictions including masks, distancing and proof of vaccination, many people worked to make this a successful shoot. A special thanks to John C. who prepared the lunch and the awards presentations as well as the prizes.

A second presentation of plaques was made to Danny G., John McC. and Bert deV. who had tied for the highest single target of 100/9X. Another plaque went to Bert deV. for the highest match score of 300/25X shot during the regular season.

Then - the big moment - scores were read out and a trophy was presented to Mike C. who had won this year's Championship. A plaque for second and third was presented to Bert deV. and John McC. Finally, all those present who had not placed were entered in a draw for prizes - all shooters went home happy.

SEPTEMBER 19, 2021 - MINTO - 200yd CENTERFIRE - RESULTS

It was a lovely day that heralded the imminent arrival of Fall. It was cool, sunny and the wind toyed with our shots so that they were all over the paper. It was impossible to tell what the wind was doing over the pond that is located between the shooting building and the targets at 200 yards. But we had a lot of fun - the five of us even if our shooting was nothing to write home about.
It was very nice to see our old friend from Florenceville, Ash P. after many months of not shooting with him. He has not lost any of his skills as he promptly took first place in Open class.
