JULY 13, 2014 - PETITCODIAC - CENTERFIRE SHOOT - RESULTS
Thanks to Volker T. for sending this write-up and to Dan G. for the pictures of the winners. We had our inaugural shoot on the brand new concrete shooting hut floor today. Everyone was very pleased with the new look of the building and it sure was a pleasure to be able to move around without disturbing any of the shooters on the firing line. Big thanks to Dan G., Logan G., and Matt A. for carrying the shooting benches back into the shooting hut after the floor was finished.
Although it was a small turnout, all there enjoyed the day which was truly a fine one for shooting. Other shooters were attending a shoot in Minto, a long-range shoot at the Batouche Range in Gagetown, on holidays or perhaps just recuperating from the previous night's ringer toss championships.
The day was sunny with very light winds and temperatures up there. Even though the wind was light, no shooters were added to the Petitcodiac 300 Club, but . . . for a while a few were being pursued. Oh well, there is always the next time. Solace was sought by indulging in the excellent treats provided by Shelly C. and Dan G. Congratulations to the top shooters. It sure is nice to see Matt A. coming into his own - he is persistent and a fast learner for sure!
Many thanks to the following people who helped make this shoot possible:
Match Director - Volker T.
Scorers - Volker T and Martin T.
Target Changers - Dan G. and Brian P.
Range Safety Officers - Dan G. and Volker T.
Sweets - Shelly C. and Dan G.

JULY 13, 2014 - MINTO 22BR SHOOT - RESULTS
Many thanks to Barbara Jamieson for sending the results and the pictures below:

It was a bright sunny day with hardly a cloud in the sky. I don't know what wind conditions there were but just down the road at the RNBRA - Annual Prize Meet shoot, the wind was gusty at 25 km/hr at times and twisting down range. So it may well have been quite challenging. Thirteen shooters attended with Wayne K. being the Match Director and most everyone else pitching in to help as is usual for a shoot in Minto.

JUNE 22, 2014 - PETITCODIAC 22BR SHOOT
the 15-20C range.
There were 17 shooters who enjoyed the friendly camaraderie of the match - not to mention the great sweets provided by our usual contributors - Shelly C., Barb J. and Dan G. (It might be time to add a cooking/recipe section to this blog as the
sweets are truly great. Of course, if we did that, we would also have to add excercise and diet sections!)
Today the Match Director and scorer was Volker T. while Dan G. and Darryl K. served as RSOs. Our Registrar and Statistician was John C. Dan G. and Shelly C. did the target changing. Volker T. prepared the club house and Darryl K. was the talented photographer. Thanks all - it makes a difference. We love having you attend.
With the mild wind, we expected to see a few 500 scores. The wind WAS mild but oh so deceitful! Although many tried their "durnest" but missed by a shot or two, the big congratulations go to Gerard D. who shot a perfect 500/17X. Way to go Gerard - you will enter the hallowed halls of the Petitcodiac 500 Club and your name will be added to the 500 Trophy.

JUNE 15, 2014 - MINTO 22BR SHOOT
We celebrated Father's Day at the Minto Range with a great 22BR shoot.
It was a great day with a nice group of shooters and new targets. It was very cloudy and windy which was a challenge for most shooters. On the plus side, the rain held off and the wind blew mosquitos and black flies back into the woods.
Everyone helped out in some way - Terry McN. and Barb J. were the RSOs; Dave C. and Wayne were the score keepers while George M., Barb J. and Tom W. changed the targets. Terry McN. boiled the kettle for coffee and Barb J. brought her famous treats. Cecil H. swept the sand off the floor and steps and George M. did some housekeeping around the benches.

JUNE 8, 2014 - CENTERFIRE SHOOT - PETITCODIAC

Thanks to Volker T. for sending this write up and results and to Darryl K. for sending the pictures.
We had great weather for today's shoot and 16 shooters from all over southeren New Brunswick attended - coming from as far away as Fredericton and Oromocto in the north to Grand Manan in the south. And of course shooters from Sussex and the Moncton area were there in force. It was good to see Ron M. who was home from work in Alberta.
Today, temperatures ranged from 17C in the morning, up to 23C in the afternoon. It was sunny all day and you couldn't ask for a better day to be shooting with friends. The wind was there to challenge the shooters - gusting from 10km/hr to 20km/hr. It took effect when we least wanted it - and there was a touch of mirage just to make things interesting. We didn't shoot any 300s - not that we didn't try our "darnest" - but we had some close scores and were happy with that for now.
Bert deV.'s 30BR was absent but Don M. had brought his. He shot very well indeed and tied for third. The tie breaker went to the shooter with the highest first target shot - and this turned out to be Matt A. - congrats! Ron M. was there with his 308 just to make sure we wouldn't miss Bert's boomer 30BR. What fun we have!!
Until next time, Cheers fellow shooters.

RCMP SHOOTING TRAGEDY IN MONCTON
As Benchrest and Target Shooters, and as just plain people who live in New Brunswick and around Moncton, we wish to express our sincere condolences to the families of the slain and wounded RCMP officers in Moncton NB. Our deepest condolences also go to the RCMP and indeed to the people of New Brunswick for this loss.
The RCMP officers who were gunned down, as are all law enforcement officers, are the mainstay of a safe, law abiding society and their deaths are felt deeply by us all.
It is our hope that the perpetrator of this act is apprehended speedily and without further harm to anyone - police and the general public alike.
We, who very much enjoy the sporting use of firearms, support the legal and legitimate use of firearms for these sporting activities. At the same time, we strongly condemn the use of firearms for any criminal and illegal purposes.

MAY 25, 2014 - PETITCODIAC - 22BR SHOOT
The match ran quickly, thanks to the usual and much appreciated help from many people. Thanks to Brian P., Dan G., Shelly C., Darryl K., and Tony L. for taking the responsibility of target setting and changing, Rang Safety Officering, and doing Clubhouse chores including the wonderful warmth of the wood stove - it gets darn cold in New Brunswick in May by golly!
A big thanks to Barb J., Dan G. and Shelly C. for the great sweets. That extra sugar helped to sweetened up the bitter taste of some of the shots fired and the sour note of the resulting scores. . . . and helped us stay warm.
A very strange thing is happening here in Petitcodiac - maybe under the cover of the night. As you can see from the picture of the rifle rack, 75% of the rifles used were Anschutz. This is a huge increase over years past and we can only conclude that they are reproducing when we aren't looking.
