NOVEMBER 14, 2024 - MINTO - RIMFIRE BR OPEN/SPORTER - RESULTS

Thanks to Dale H. for these results and write-up. Also to Darryl K. and Barb J. for the pictures.
It was a windy day as the scores reflect. Perhaps the weather forecast resulted in our small turnout.  A scoring correction resulted in John M. Getting the 2nd place and Guy H. placing 3rd. In Sporter Class.

Thanks to Barb J. and Darryl K. for the pics.

OCTOBER 27, 2024 - MINTO - 8TH ANNUAL TERRY McNEILL RIMFIRE CHAMPIONSHIP - OPEN/SPORTER

Winter is truly on its way. Although the fall is only 1/3 gone the temperature this morning hovered around 0C on the way to the Minto ranges rising to only 7C by the time the match was over.
A good number of shooters from the southern parts of New Brunswick travelled to take part in the 8th Annual Terry McNeill Rimfire Championship. These came from areas as far apart as Mazerolle Settlement and Ludlow all the way to Moncton and Saint John.
Although the day remained clear and sunny, which was a bonus, the wind played havoc with all shooters. At times it raged at over 40km/hr and at other times it stayed relatively calm.
What was so unpredictable was that it switched suddenly and dramatically with flags all over the range rotating wildly in all directions at once. Waiting for conditions to change worked sometimes but it was necessary to have more than one preferred condition so as not to run out of time. Skill and Lady luck had to be on your side.

OCTOBER 13, 2024 - MINTO - CENTERFIRE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH, OPEN/SPORTER - RESULTS

It was quite a nice day for the Centerfire Championship shoot in Minto. Driving to the range it was around 5C and this temperature increased to about 12C by the end of the activities.
More importantly, it was dry and sunny. The previous week had been dominated by rain and also gale force winds. Today - no rain and lots of wind.

The wind was the real weather story for this shoot. It blew from all directions and ranged from almost quiet to well over 30km/hr. Shooting was, at times, very difficult as the wind flags give good indication of direction but the velocity of the wind is always a judgement call. I guess sometimes we judged wrongly!

Another factor to consider was that a lot of range improvement activity has taken place in the last couple of weeks. A new berm was constructed for the pistol range and this has significantly changed the traditional wind patterns on the 100yd rifle range - something else we had to learn.
