It was a hot New Brunswick day with temperatures peaking well over 30C - but in the shooting building, in the shade, it was not too too bad.
As usual, the wind was tricky again with lots of quiet periods when it appeared that there was no wind at all.
Some shooters had great difficulty shooting in these "no wind" conditions with unexpected flyers going to the 8 ring at times. There obviously was some wind on the range that we didn't see. Also, with low berms at 25yds and uneven vegetation, there was uneven heating and up-drafts.
What wind there was, came from uprange - generally from 11:00 to 1:00 o'clock with some cross wind gusts. Despite this, some pretty good shooting happened today with congratulations going to Matt McA. for a perfect 500/16X.
Today, John McC. prepared the range and took early registration. Dan G. was the Match Director and scorer while Shelly C. was the score verifier. Targets were changed by Shelly C., Brian P. and Don M. The ROs for the match were Darryl K. and Bert deV. Shelly brought her most popular treats which were "verslunden" by the shooters.

Matt McA. - 500/16X

JUNE 26, 2016 - FLORENCEVILLE - SMALLBORE UNLIMITED - RESULTS
Ash Pardy sends the following results from Florenceville.
(Here's a link to Google Maps for the location of the range: Florenceville Range )
(Here's a link to Google Maps for the location of the range: Florenceville Range )
A 10mph southern wind (gusting to 18mph) was switching on our targets from the 8 o'clock position (left and down range) through to the 4 o'clock position (right and down range). A squeeze of the trigger as the wind switched past 6 o'clock, proved several times to throw your shot out into the 8 ring or 7 ring (ouch!). All in all it sure was a tricky day.
Then there were the temperatures - sweltering for New Brunswickers and above 30 degrees Celsius. At least the shelter over our firing line made for some shady comfort, keeping the sun directly off the shooters.
RESULTS - USBR 22BR UNLIMITED (SCORED BEST EDGE):
Attached is a pic of our targets of choice at Florenceville.
It is the official USBR 50 yard target...however we shoot it at 50 meter distance.
The 10 rings are 0.10" in diameter..and thus far they have proved challenging for us...with a race to the perfect 250 score still up for grabs at our club.
Targets are scored "best edge"..if its not clearly shown we plug the shot to get a gauged score.
If the shot touches the line..you get the highest score.
The 22 gauge plug is only used once.

JULY 19, 2016 - RNBRA SMALLBORE MTR CHAMPIONSHIP - WOODSTOCK - RESULTS
The Woodstock Rifle and Pistol Club Match Organization Committee L>R: Hans van Spingelen - Match Director, Greg Dickinson, Chloe Dickinson, Jeff Young, Steven Stewart (RNBRA) missing: Bill Anthony |
This Championship was for both Junior and Senior shooters. It was a prone rifle shoot from a platform position with a front rest permitted (no rear rests could be used - you can sure notice your heartbeat when shooting prone and it's warm). There were two classes - Open or Unlimited Smallbore Rifle and Sport Rifle. The latter was shot from elbows and included any rifle with a hunting profile barrel.
The Match Director was Hans vanSpingelen. He also headed the Match organization committee - all volunteers from the Woodstock Club who did a superb job of getting the range ready for this match and who took down the tents, platforms and targets after the match. Steven Stewart was the RNBRA liaison with the Woodstock Club and also scored the targets during the match. The Range Officers were David Harris and Bert deVink. Competitors changed their own targets after each relay. As in past years, Simon Clark was the cook for some of the most delectable hamburgers and hot dogs - you knew he was there as the smell of fried onions wafted over the range at the time when we were all famished. When all was said and done, we finished with the traditional black powder Mauser 43 Volley with firearms and ammunition provided by Hans and Norbert.
Needless to say, we all had a very good time today. Our thanks to Hans and his team from the Woodstock Club.

JUNE 19, 2016 - MINTO - CF/OPEN AND SPORTER MATCH - RESULTS
Thanks to John McC. for sending the report and pictures.
There were eight shooters today - five in Open class and three in Sport Rifle. We figure the low turn-out was due to Fathers Day and shooters who might have wanted to be here but were at shooting matches in other places. A good time had by all.
It was warm - 29C and the usual Minto windy day which is short for saying that the wind was a real challenge.
RESULTS - OPEN CLASS:
Don M. - 298/7X
Guy H. - 296/8X
John McC. - 295/9X
Terry McN. - 291/5X

JUNE 13, 2016 - PETITCODIAC CENTERFIRE BR - RESULTS
Almost halfway through 2016 - JUNE! It was cold, wet and windy. We haven't had much of a warm spring and now, close to summer it is still heavy jacket weather - people were talking about starting up the stove. The rain is OK - we're used to that.
Despite this, all 18 shooters had good fun during this match and it was good to see our friends and shooting colleagues again. It must also be said that the cornucopia of treats did a lot to soften the impact of the weather and warm our bellies.
Shelly C. brought her famous squares which were gone in a flash. Dan G. brought the Timbits - also gone. Dave C. and Susan brought delicious banana bread - so much that it took most of the match to have them disappear. John and Dorothy McC. brought wonderful banana bread and chocolate chip muffins, some of which hitched a ride back home with some of the shooters. I, for one, can tell you they were thoroughly enjoyed by the young grandkids and the not-so-young kids.
The wind was also OK - we're certainly used to that in Petitcodiac. By the way, the weatherman was calling for 15km/hr winds in the Moncton area and we got that - mostly in our faces on the shooting bench although at different times it was
across the range from both directions. Pretty typical Petitcodiac winds - tricky and less predictable than you like.
Aside from the treats, a lot of people worked to make this match enjoyable. Volker T. was the match director and scorer with Tom N. verifying the scoring and the stats. The Range Officers were Bruce B., Darryl K. and John McC. Targets were set and changed by those who had raincoats on or who didn't care much about getting wet - Dave C., Shelly C., Bert deV., Arnold F., Dan G., John McC. and Brian P.
