It was a very tight race - right to the last shot - which was finally decided by X count. Seventeen shooters were in top form, fueled by a cornucopia of treats, camaraderie and favoured by the weather gods. Unfortunately, there were some shooting errors which affected one of our shooters and without which the following results would have been very different.
The day started out beautifully with only a smattering of rain on the way down to the range. For most of the day it stayed dry (one relay had some rain) and warm and mostly overcast - good for seeing the targets. Winds were non-existent for about 1/2 the match
and during the other 1/2 they came either uprange towards the shooters or out of a 11:00 oclock position. Very, very light winds, (maybe 5-8 km/hr), for Petitcodiac but enough to push a subsonic 22 bullet just wide of the 10 ring as we all seem to have discovered. Bugs there were a-plenty and Darryl K. fought a valiant battle against them with his trusty can of "Deep Woods Off". Not sure who won that one.
Many people helped out to make this match a really good one. Volker T. was the Match Director and Scorer with John McC. verifyng the scores and stats. The Range Officers today were Dan G., Darryl K. and Bert deV. Very nice treats (couldn't resist) were brought by Barb J. and Shelly C. Targets were set and changed by a very efficient crew of John McC., Shelly C., Brian P., Dave C. and BertdeV. The photographers were Barb J. and Darryl K.

Shooting is a great way to spend part of the Victoria Day Long-weekend - especially when you're spending it with good friends and shooting colleagues . . . and the weather is really really nice (for a welcome change).
Today it was warm (about 24C in the afternoon), not very windy (5-10 km/hr max mostly left to right), dry (although there is a forecast for some showers later in the day) - perfect weather for firing at those tiny bullseyes down at the 100 yard
line. Perfect also for swatting black-flies of which there were a record number today in the shooting building. The alternative is more cold so we were very happy with today's conditions.
Although not a lot of shooters could come out, we all had fun and after the first couple of relays were full of anticipation that we might shoot some possibles in Open Class. Unfortunately, that was not to be as we all dropped a point or two before the match was finished. Congrats to Bert deV. who shot the first Sporter Class 150/9X in Minto.
The Match Director today was Dave C. who also did the scoring. He, and wife Susan, also made some delicious banana bread which was devoured after the shooting was done. Don M. was the score verifier. The Range Officers were Dave C. and Wayne K. Targets were set and changed by Wayne K., John McC., Dave C., and George M. who was waiting to shoot the pistol match. Many thanks to all for your help today.

Last but not least, we were treated to the sight of a new Minto Gun Club sign at the entrance made by John and Dorothy McC. - John says he built it while Dorothy did the art work. Many thanks to both of you for a sign that increases the property value at least ten-fold!!
It was a pretty cool morning for this time of year and the weatherman had predicted some nasty winds and rain during our match. Despite the cool temperatures, the blackflies were beginning to come out to nibble on our ears.
As the day progressed it did become a little warmer but not enough to shed our sweaters and jackets. The wind did not pick up during the match but stayed light and mostly from the targets to the firing line. There were also lots of quiet times. The rain did appear towards the end of the match when the shooting was done and everyone was ready to go home.
Because of the conditions and a bit of an early start, as well as there being only 14 shooters and eight benches, the match moved along quickly and we were on the road again by 1:30pm. Feels like we spent more time driving than shooting
today.
You would think that because of the conditions we would have had some new 300 club members but this was not to be - I guess the wind was still tricky even though it didn't blow hard. Sneaky and tricky is what the Petitcodiac winds are.
Today Terry McN. cooked up some nice, big, juicy hotdogs. One fellow was heard to comment that they must have weighed 4 pounds each. Dan G. brought the Timbits. Funny how we always have time for the treats!!
The match director was Volker T. who also scored the targets. John McC. was the score and stats verifier. The Range Safety Officers were Bruce B., Dan G., Arnold F. and John C. while Dan G., John McC., Brian P., Arnold F., and Bert deV. changed targets.
