MINTO BENCHREST SHOOTING RULES FOR 2013

Minto Gun Club - Benchrest Shooting Rules

The Minto Benchrest Shooting Rules for 2013 are attached to the shooting schedule. I have separated them from the schedule and posted them here so that they will be a ready reference for all shooters who will be shooting in Minto in 2013.
You are strongly encouraged to read them and to communicate with the shooting committee if you wish to discuss any changes. Rules are made first of all for safety, secondly for fairness, and lastly to encourage and promote the shooting sports.

1.     A Range Officer (RO) will appointed for each match.

2.     Firearms must always be pointed in a safe direction with the bolt (action) open when not on the firing line.

3.     All shoots start at 10:00 am sharp.

4.     Only .22 LR are allowed on silhouettes or flippers.

5.     Any physically challenged shooter who cannot shoot standing will be allowed to sit at the firing line and free hold the firearm to shoot their target. Permission to do so must be granted prior to commencement of shooting. If the shooter cannot free hold the firearm from a sitting position, he/she may be granted permission to rest their elbows on the table if necessary.

6.     Sighting in/Sighter  targets:
                     (1)   Anyone wishing to sight in before the shoot should be there early.
                     (2)   If anyone is waiting to sight in, 5 minutes maximum will be permitted per shooter.  When there are a large number of shooters, shots on sighter targets may be limited.
                     (3)   On Benchrest targets that have no sighter target, 2 extra shots will  be allowed as sighters.

7.     Each relay will be timed allowing one minute per scoring shot (a ten shot scoring target - 10 minutes including sighters). The range officer will start each relay when all shooters signify that they are ready. As the time limit approaches, he will give warnings such as "5 minutes left", "3 minutes left", "1 minute left". All shooting will cease when the range officer calls "cease fire" whether all shots have been fired or not.

8.     .22 Caliber shoots:
                     (1)   There will be two classes of .22 caliber shoots - sporter and open
                     (2)   Open class will  be any rifle, any sights, any ammo
                     (3)   Sporter class will be restricted to mid-priced rifles with any action except Martini. Rifles made by Anschuetz, Walther, Volquartsen, Kimber, Cooper and Sako and other similar expensive makes are not  elligible. No target rifles are allowed. The cut-off price will be just above the CZ bolt action/Marlin lever action price. This is a difficult line to draw, so please bear with us. Match committee decisions will be final.
                     (4)   Sporter class sights - scopes will be set at 9X maximum. Spotting scopes are recommended. Open or peep sights are not recommended but may be used. If all of a shooter's targets are shot with a peep sight, a 2% bonus will apply. If targets are shot with open sights, a 3% bonus will apply.
                     (5)   Sporter class barrels - barrels will have a maximum muzzle diameter of .875", custom barrels are not allowed.
                     (6)   More than one rifle may be used if they are of the same class. ( subject to change in 2013)
