SEPTEMBER 29, 2024 - MINTO - RIMFIRE BR - RESULTS

Thanks to Dale H. for composing and sending these results.
Well, another really nice shooting day in central New Brunswick! It is getting on to the Fall of the year and trees are beautiful along the route to the range with yellows, oranges and reds set against a backdrop of dark green evergreens.
The temperature was wonderful starting out in the morning at about 8C and rising to 19C by the end of the match. There were cloudy periods and a bit of sun here and there which made the targets fairly easy to see although a bit of mirage was evident from time to time. Best of all - no bugs!
The wind - you can never escape the wind effects in Minto - was, for the most part, benign and predictable which made "holding off" a possible and successful strategy. Sometimes there was no visible wind and, although good shots were available then, you did take a risk that unseen effects would push the bullet out of the 10 ring. Oh yes! - this happened and led to some unhappiness in some shooters. Others escaped narrowly with shots kissing the 10 ring.
Generally, scores were good today with several shooters shooting clean targets. In Open Class, congrats are due to Darryl K. who shot a 400/14X; to George M. who shot a 400/19X; to Cecil H. who shot a 400/22X and to Bert deV. who shot a 400/27X. In Sporter Class both Volker T. at 400/19X and Bert deV. at 400/25X shot clean targets. Congrats to all.

SEPTEMBER 22, 2024 - PETITCODIAC - CENTERFIRE CHAMPIONSHIP - RESULTS

Hard on the heels of the Martin F. Topf Rimfire Championship came today's Centerfire Championship of the Petitcodiac 2024 shooting season.
The day started out a bit cool at 8C with lots of fog in low lying areas. The day gradually warmed up to 20C by the end of the match. Winds were benign, coming from the right predominantly but also from all over the range. It was possible to wait for a chosen condition with lots of time to spare. The first relays were hampered by bright sun and mirage but later relays were a bit more overcast and so visibility improved.
Although the number of shooters was small for a championship, it was consistent with the rest of the season. In this case the New Brunswick moose season is just around the corner. Additionally, we are still experiencing great difficulty in finding centerfire components and the prices are through the roof. The enthusiasm of those present more than made up for the lack of numbers. It was nice to see Becky McC. again who, because of work committments, had been unable to shoot throughout the regular season.
It should be noted that some very good scores were recorded during this match with many clean single target sheets. Clean matches were shot by Cecil H. with a 300/19X, Malcolm McA. with a 300/19X, Bert deV. with a 300/15X and by Becky McC. with 300/14X. Congrats to all.

PEOPLE TO THANK:
Volker T., who did not shoot and who served as Score Verifier, Target changer and RO. He also supplied the Timbits during the shooting.
Dan G. served as Match Director and scorer.
Tony L. who prepared the targets stands and brought Shelly C.'s wonderful treats.
Grant H. who provided for the lunch after the shoot.
John McC., Cecil H. and Malcolm McA. who changed targets.
Dorothy McC. who had prepared wonderful cookies for dessert.
Darryl K. for sending some nice pics.

Chris A. -   97/3X     95/1X     100/6X = 292/10X (6mmPPC)

After the match was completed, the targets scored and arithmetic done, we all went to the club house where Grant H. had set out a lunch. By this time we were all famished and the lunch soon made way for the awards presentations.

The three top shooters today were awarded with a trophy and plaques.
First place: Cecil H. - 300/19X

Second place: Malcolm McA. - 300/19X

Third place: Bert deV. - 300/15X
Then came the awards for the highest match score during the regular shooting season and also for the highest single target score. Congrats go to Malcolm McA. in both these categories having shot a season's best 300/23X match score and also the 100/10X single target score.
The Petitcodiac Centerfire Team was awarded a medal for having won the Terry McNeill Centerfire Team shoot earlier in the year.
First place: PETITCODIAC CENTERFIRE TEAM

Finally, before the group broke up to go home, everyone took part in a draw to select their prize from a central table. No-one went home empty handed as is the custom of the Petitcodiac Sportsman's Club. Thanks to all who made this event possible and very enjoyable!

SEPTEMBER 15, 2024 - MINTO - CENTERFIRE BR - RESULTS

Although it started as a cool day with temperatures around 3-5C, the day did warm up slowly with near 20C temperatures at the end of the match. Conditions were mostly favourable with clear sunny skies and very light to negligeable winds. There were long periods of quiet on the range with no noticeable wind and shooters waiting for their favourite wind conditions, waited for a long time between shots. This was also one of the few times that shooting in "no-wind" conditions paid off.

Only a few shooters attended with 3 open class shooters and 3 sporter class shooters. This left a lot of work to be shared by relatively few people. Thanks are due to all and especially to Mike C. for stepping up.

SEPTEMBER 8, 2024 - PETITCODIAC - 10TH ANNUAL MARTIN F. TOPF RIMFIRE BR CHAMPIONSHIP - OPEN

Thanks to Darryl K. and Barb J. for sending pics and results.
It is again the time of year to begin to wrap up the competition season and to move into fun shoots. Today a good bunch of shooters converged on the Petitcodiac shooting ranges to take part in the 10th Annual Martin F. Topf Rimfire Benchrest Championship - an event that is looked forward to eagerly throughout the year.

Shooters came from all over the southern part of New Brunswick - all the way from Mazerolle Settlement to Moncton, from Saint John to Ludlow and various points in between.

The course of fire was 2 target sheets of 25 bulls with 1 shot per bull for score and unlimited sighters shot at 50 yards. One of the sheets was shot in the morning and one in the afternoon with a stop for lunch in between. The high possible score was 500/50X for the match.

With 22 shooters we ended up with 6 relays of shooters with some significant differences in conditions among the relays. The first relay the wind was very quiet and many shots were made with flags not moving - even their tails. The wind gradually picked up during the morning and later relays had to content with switching winds sometimes at 20km/hr. The afternoon relays were different again with switching winds and still some quiet periods. The sky remained overcast for the whole match and although rain was expected, it did not materialise. The temperature ranged from about 17C to 20C.

With these conditions, it was maybe a bit surprising that such very good scores were recorded. Seven shooters were able to shoot clean targets - John McC. shot a 500/33X; Cecil H. a 500/29X; John M. a 500/26X; Bert deV. a 500/26X; Volker T. a 500/24X; Bruce B. a 500/16X and Gerald D. a 500/13X. Congrats to these shooters for some fine shooting!
