JULY 20, 2025 - MINTO - RIMFIRE OPEN/SPORTER, RNBRA RIMFIRE BENCHREST CHAMPIONSHIPS

Many thanks to Dale H. for working the stats and sending the results and also to Barb J. and Darryl K. for sending the pics.

This has been a very wet summer so far in New Brunswick and true to form, the day started out with rain and 15C. Although the temperature did go up to a mild 18C in the afternoon, the rain did not let up much. Many thanks to those who changed targets in the rain and others who got wet doing things that helped us all out.

This match was a combination of a regular Minto Club Rimfire match, with both Open and Sporter class competition, and an Annual Royal New Brunswick Rifle Assn. Provincial Benchrest Championship. Shooters from all over the province could participate. Most shooters were from the Minto Gun Club and the Petitcodiac Sportsmen's Club which are the hubs of benchrest shooting in New Brunswick. The attendance was good with 23 shooters coming from Moncton to Mazerolle Settlement and from Saint John to Ludlow as well as many points in between. We were glad to see George M. return to shooting following his recuperation from the accident a few weeks ago.

The wind was the main player in today's matches. It is very rare to be able to say that there was absolutely no wind during about 80% of the shooting, but that is what happened today. The daisy wheels were totally inactive until the last 2 relays and the tails on the indicators drooped down with hardly even the hint of a flutter. Most shots followed each other to the point of aim and only the slightest adjustments were needed. As a result, we saw some very good scores and 27 clean target sheets were shot, (including both classes of competition). Unfortunately, these conditions disappeared before the match was done and the last 2 relays had to contend with switching winds and, at times, heavy rain. It should be mentioned that a good number of shooters achieved personal bests in today's match. Both joy and disappointment were tasted today - but then that is the bitter-sweet nature of our sport!
Not the whole bunch that started the day
but a good bunch of shooters nonetheless

During the match, David C. provided the group with a lunch of sandwiches prepared by his wife and sister (many thanks - we all enjoyed them).
Following the shooting, when all targets had been scored and the results tallied, award presentations took place in the Minto Clubhouse while the rain continued to pour down. Club president David C. presented the Minto Club first and second place medals for open and sporter class. Then Conrad L., representing the RNBRA, presented the provincial medals for first and second place shooters in both classes.

JULY 6, 2025 - MINTO - CENTERFIRE OPEN/SPORTER - RESULTS

Well, it was a summer day in Minto New Brunswick. This meant that on the drive to the range it was raining a little with overcast skies and temperature at about 18C. At the range it was still overcast and the rain had stopped. It did not come back during the match but we experienced some misting on the way home. During the match, the temperature rose from 18C to 27C - quite warm for the high humidity.
The wind was mostly from the left - quite steady during the first relay. During the second and third relays it was switching and sometimes died completely - hard to predict and even harder to compensate for the velocity changes. Some of our errors were certainly due to this.

Because of the small number of shooters, there were only 2 relays. This was good as the match did not last long and we could plan on some other things to do this Sunday when we got home. It was bad, though, in that our barrels did not get much of a chance to cool down between relays - were some of our wild shoots due to this?

We were glad to see our shooting friend, Ben F., again after a long time away. He had not lost any of his skills and did very well in Open Class.

JUNE 29, 2025 - PETITCODIAC - CENTERFIRE OPEN - RESULTS

Thanks to Darryl K. for the results and pics and also to Danny G. for the write-up. Darryl says "small turn out and the wind was up - still some shooters did well".
Danny G. says "Only five shooters at today’s match for what ever the reason might be - perhaps it was because of the “long” weekend or because the wind was quite nasty throughout the day, not sure. We still had a great day and some good scores were realized.
Match director today was Dan G. with John McC. performing the verifier role.  Malcolm McA. and John McC. were the target setters and retrievers.  RO was Dan while Tony L. looked after target stand placement and repair.   Thanks everyone.
