Summertime in New Brunswick and a shoot in Petitcodiac sounds like a wonderful combination. And it was! A whole bunch of people came from as far north as Mazarolle Settlement outside of Fredericton and as far south as Saint John, (and many places in between), to take part in a rimfire benchrest match. These are always hotly contested and very enjoyable - not only as a match but also as a get-together for old friends who haven't seen each other for a while. The shoot was enjoyed by all. Congrats go to Gerald D. and Bert deV. who shot clean matches.

The weather was not so nice, although certainly tolerable. It was about 20C on the way down to the range and it rose slightly over the course of the match. The last couple of weeks in New Brunswick have been very humid and wet and these conditions persisted throughout this day. A towel was certainly a necessity for some shooters. During the second half of the match we were subjected to a few heavy showers pounding on the steel roof and retrieving the wind flags became a quick dash among the rain drops. The wind was actually gentle but tricky with many periods of no apparent wind activity. A debate was held among some shooters about whether it was better to wait and shoot with some wind evident or to shoot during quiet periods - some success was reported for both strategies.
Next week we'll be in Minto when we shoot the RNBRA Rimfire Benchrest Championship in both Open and Sporter classes. Hope to see you there.
