MAY 14, 2023 - MINTO CENTERFIRE BR - RESULTS

So far, this has been a season of extremes - extreme cold, extreme wind - especially extreme wind! Today again the wind was almost unpredictable with head winds, quiet winds, left and right winds. Not only the direction was a puzzle but the velocity was unfathomable. There were gusts forecast from 29 to 40Kph and we saw at least that and many times the wind surpassed that. Other than the wind it was a fine day - sunny and the temperatures rose from about 5C to 13C in the afternoon. The conditions were such that we simply accepted what was thrown at us as drifting bullets were "par for the course" and there could be no surprises in that! Needless to say, no clean targets were shot today.

Six hardy and dedicated centerfire shooters showed up on this mother's day. The tasks of running a match was shared equally amongst us with David C. running the match as match director, scorer and RO for one of the relays. Bert deV. was the score verifier and the RO for the other relay. David C., Cecil H. and Guy H. set and changed the targets. Thanks to all for your help.

MAY 7, 2023 - PETITCODIAC - TERRY McNEILL CENTERFIRE TEAM SHOOT - RESULTS

Time is certainly moving on and this weekend we shot the Annual Terry McNeill Centerfire Team Shoot for 2023. Unfortunately, due to costs and the unavailability of centerfire components, fewer shooters than in years past attended this match. Even so, those who were there had a lot of fun in competition as well as socializing over a lunch provided by the Petitcodiac Club.

There were only 2 teams competing this year with Lake George not having sent any shooters. Team Minto was composed of Captain David C., Wayne K., Don M., Cecil H., and Bert deV.
Team Petitcodiac included Captain Volker T., Dan G., John McC., Darryl K., Tony L., and Malcolm McA. Up to 7 shooters could form a team but only the best 4 shooters were counted in the team's official score. With this formula and with all the shooting and statistics done, it became clear that Team Petitcodiac was the 2023 Annual Terry McNeill Centerfire Team Shoot champion with an aggregate score of 1187/46X. Team Minto came second with a score of 1176/45X. Congratulations to Team Petitcodiac - good shooting guys.

The shooting conditions were mixed with a bright sun dominating the match. This caused some challenges with mirage on the orange bulls. Temperatures ranged from about 10C at the beginning to a record setting 22C in the afternoon. The wind could be described as "tricky" although other words were sometimes used. It was mostly from 12 o'clock but at times came from any other direction with different directions at the same time across the range. As a result of all this no clean matches were shot today although many single targets were outstanding.

APRIL 30, 2023 - MINTO - RIMFIRE BR - RESULTS

The shoot this Sunday in Minto held a couple of surprises for us. First of all, David C., the president of the Minto Gun Club has started the renovations so badly needed to make our shoots more efficient. He will be adding 2 benches to the current 4 and this will require an extension to the building. In addition, the broken concrete floor has been removed and will be rebuilt. This situation made it impossible to shoot from inside the building and so the benches were arrayed outside - harking back many years to when the range was first opened. Some of us actually enjoyed this situation although there were some fears that our equipment might be rained on later in the day. The light was definitely better than inside the building which made it easier to shoot.

Secondly, it did not rain. Rain had been in the forecast for later in the day but we managed to complete the match without so much as one drop on our equipment. Yes, it was overcast all day and a bit cool. The wind was predominantly from 12 o'clock with occasional quiet periods and switches to 9 o'clock and gusty. It could be described as "tricky" and cost a point here and there. It was definitely a day for patiently waiting for one's conditions to return.
Congratulations are due to Volker T. for shooting the first clean match of the season in Sporter class. Also to Bert deV. and Dan G. for clean matches in Open class.
