MAY 12, 2024 - MINTO - CENTERFIRE TEAM SHOOT

Everyone had prepared for the Centerfire Team Shoot - one of the highlights of the shooting season. The course of fire was to shoot 30 counting shots at small caliber specific bulls over 3 relays with the four highest scores counting toward the team scores for each team. Each could be composed of as many as 8 shooters but only the four highest were included in the scoring for that team. Both the Minto Gun Club and the Petitcodiac Shooting Sports Club were represented.

The day started out with the temperature a bit on the cool side (6-7C) which, as is typical for a May day in New Brunswick, warmed up to around 18C by the end of the shooting. What made it a bit unusual was that a raw wind persisted throughout the match and many shooters kept on their winter coats while sitting on the benches with the wind coming in through the ports.
The wind was really the story of the day as it persisted all day long with gusts at least 40km/hr. It was really not steady but offered many windows where the selected conditions would come back.

Unfortunately, the day was also marred by at least 2 shooters having equipment problems that affected the outcome significantly.

MAY 5, 2023 - PETITCODIAC - CENTERFIRE - RESULTS

It was a wonderful spring day in New Brunswick when we went to the Petitcodiac range for the first centerfire match in May. Although bit cool in the morning - about 7C - it did warm up nicely to about 18C on our way back.
In the meantime, during the match, it stayed a little cool but sunny. This gave us a lot of mirage when the wind was relatively still. This disappeared when the wind picked up. It was interesting that in the first and last relays shooters were plagued by heavy mirage - so much so that it was almost impossible to see the center lines of the bulls and much of our sighting was guesswork. The middle relays, by contrast were much clearer for sighting but here we had to deal with gusty winds that were quite unpredictable.
Despite these conditions, some good scores were recorded although the X count was a bit low. Congrats go to Malcolm McA. who scored a clean target of 300/13X and also to Bert deV. who shot a 300/10X.

APRIL 28, 2024 - MINTO - RIMFIRE BR - RESULTS

It started out as a cool Sunday morning with the temperature around the freezing mark. Thankfully, Wayne K. and George M. had stoked the fire in the stove and the Clubhouse was toasty warm.  However, as the day progressed, coats and jackets were shedded and we ended up with 18C at the end of the shoot. The sun was out all day long which, after a long winter, was a blessing to all.
Winds were all over the range but predominantly from left to right and from 6:00 to 12:00 o'clock. Sometimes there appeared to be o wind at all. The wind was fierce at times with the tails of the flags stretched out horizontally. It was very hard to find that "one" condition that was predictable and that would return often enough to ensure a good shot - and just as hard to estimate the velocity of the wind.
As a result, no clean targets were shot today but some very good scores were recorded none-the-less.

APRIL 21, 2024 - PETITCODIAC - RIMFIRE BR - RESULTS

Today's shoot was an almost perfect day. It was sunny, 4-10C temp, and winds 14km, but gusting at times to 34km. The switching gusts cost several shooters an 8 or couple 9's and took them out of the running. Quite a following of 498 scores. But three shooters managed to shoot a perfect 500 score and into the medals category; congrats guys.
Thanks to Dan and Barb for the great sweets, and Bruce and Chris for RO'ing the match.

The Centerfire shoot in Minto this weekend was a good shoot where the participants were happy to shoot the "big guns" early in the year.

MARCH 10, 2024 - PETITCODIAC RIMFIRE - RESULTS

It was not a great weather day in Petticodiac for the second rimfire match of 2024. It was overcast with snow flurries and possible rain expected. Winds were constant with few breaks, ranging from 12 to 21km Easterly. The temperature ranged from -1C to +2C. Probably why the smaller than usual turnout. At least there was no mirage!
Considering the conditions, the scores were very good indeed. Congratulations go to John McC. who shot a 500/27X score. We had a run on X’s too with the final tally ranging from 14X to 29X (that's from 28% to 58%) - pretty darn good for this early in the season.
Volker T. was the match director and scored the targets with Dan G. verifying the scores and stats. Thanks to all who helped with running the match - the ROs, the target changers and the treat providers.
